Drawing from my own experiences navigating a leave of absence as an undergraduate student, I sought to create a course that supports and empowers students through their return to Georgetown. Using the ADDIE framework, I designed this course to provide tangible, sustained support for students who are returning to college following a leave of absence.
Learning Outcomes & Course Modules
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
Articulate their goals for the upcoming academic term
Identify the campus resources that will best support their transition back to campus
Choose academic tools and study practices to implement in the upcoming semester
Develop a return to campus plan that aligns identified resources and academic tools with students' goals
The learning outcomes map onto the four modules of this course:
Module 1: Goal Setting & Identifying To-Dos
Module 2: Reconnecting with Campus Resources
Module 3: Academic Tools & Study Resources
Module 4: Creating Your Return to Campus Plan
Interactive Campus Resources Map
Using Rise360, I developed an interactive map that allows students to explore campus departments and resources that might be most relevant to their return. In Module 2, students explore the campus resources map before writing a campus resources reflection, in which they identify the campus departments that they would like to connect with upon their return to Georgetown.
Return to Campus Plan
Upon completion of the course, students have a comprehensive return-to-campus plan that aligns that aligns students' personal goals with campus resources and academic habits. After this course, students will have check-ins with their advisor about their plan, with the goal of laying the foundation for a smooth transition back to the Hilltop.
