This workshop introduces undergraduate students to 3+1 degree configurations, including an accelerated pathway to a Master's degree, as well as a streamlined, three-year paths to near-degree completion, followed by a reimagined fourth year as a transition year. My work on this project was in collaboration with the Red House Degree Redesign Team, a team within Georgetown's educational research and design unit evaluating the purpose, shape, and pace of a Georgetown degree while enhancing transformative outcomes and wellbeing for all students.

As a part of its 2024–2027 strategic priorities, the Red House is stimulating a redesign of the bachelor’s degree that addresses these elements, while enhancing transformative outcomes and wellbeing for all students. One element of this redesign is the 3+1 curriculum modeling, which seeks to reconfigure the structure of the bachelor’s degree to be more cost effective. While 3+1 is a catch-all term for examining the relationship between cost and time, it is important to clarify that the 3+1 efforts are more so aimed at reducing cost, rather than time; if anything, time is a macro lever that is being played with to reduce costs. The current goal is to reduce the cost of a Georgetown degree by at least 25%.
